Lonely Xmas

In this scene, Tim Spall’s character comments on the music ‘I won’t be sorry not to have to listen to any more Christmas tunes…” so the song needed to have a degree of ‘not that again’ about it. Mud’s ‘It’ll Be Lonely This Xmas’ is the most maudlin and inappropriate festive tune ever made (after Wall of Voodoo’s ‘Shouldn’t Have Given Him A Gun For Christmas’) and as Les Gray was essentially impersonating Roy Orbison and Elvis I went back to the source and did my own rendition of ‘The Caruso of Rock’. Naturally, there are tubular bells. And castanets.
